Should Guam have statehood?

Just for starters, I was born in Hawaii. I know what a beautiful island should look like. I was shocked when I returned to Guam to find that it was like a blast to the past! Many of the same buildings and school I was familiar with were still standing, but now deserted, dilapidated, or poorly maintained. Streets are worn-with-wear, cars are left discarded on the side of roads, and mildew is the dressing on almost everything. The only area well-kept, besides the bases, is the Tumon strip for tourists. So, the bottom line is that the budget for the Government of Guam is not hefty enough to maintain everything on the island. Guam doesn't have an industry large enough to command big revenue. Guam is just a territory without all the benefits that states are entitled to. Why not work toward statehood and change all that? I've seen what it did for Hawaii.
